One Small Step for Blogkind

One small step before starting my blog would have set me on a different path. One tiny detail could have changed it all! What am I speaking of? Darren over at problogger has set out another writing project for bloggers. I jumped into one at an earlier time and really enjoyed it, so here we go again...
That one small step I speak of is setting a path, maybe an outline of where I wanted my blog to go and what I wanted to say. I decided on a random path so I wouldn't be boxed in. I find that I speak on many different topics which makes it easier on me, but finding a target audience is a little different. Are my musings enough? Do they want direction? It's a path I'm now considering on another blog and project I've just started. Finding that niche and working towards a target is the sensible thing to do, but come on now, I'm a Jersey Girl, who said I'm sensible!
Write it...and then ask myself why I did it later!

Your goal is pretty similar to mine.

Ah, well, if it works for you, I don't think you need to change it unless you are truly wanting more directed readership.... We did this project as well - http://lilduckduck.com/archive/187 - if you want to look!

I think, the most difficult thing is to figure out what your readers want. But you could also ask yourself: Do I really want to accomodate to my readers?

Nice point stefan...do I want to accomodate my readers? I'm split. I want to target my readers, but I like random thoughts here and there. I guess I'm hoping there's an audience for my randon nonsense!

I think your open-minded approach is fine. Don't worry, you'll figure it all out -- what you want and what your readers want -- soon enough! Enjoy the ride :)

Thx ricemutt...i'm certainly enjoying the ride!

Hey Jersey Girl, thanks for stopping my blog. Good point about finding the right path. As you know from my post, I don't want to be boxed in either. However, as you pointed out, not having a focus may make it difficult to establish a loyal reader base.
- ps - sorry to hear about the hot weather over there. we had 108, 105, and 100 degree days just last week, which is strange for the nw. last summer, the hottest it got was mid 90's. what's the deal with all the heat this summer?

Funny thing is, NY has had two tordando watches this month...I'm in NJ so eeking by, and NY never used to get hit like that...
